Brad Coutts has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for 15 years. Originally drawn to BJJ after seeing its effectiveness in UFC 1, Brad sought out and trained under Canadian BJJ pioneer Professor Shah Franco. While learning from Professor Franco, Brad had the honour of training under Jiu-Jitsu legend Mestre Sylvio Behring.
Training under Professor Shah, Brad also had an opportunity to study kickboxing under a truly world-class instructor. Brad has additionally trained in and become a certified Instructor of the Gracie Survival Tactics Level 1 program.
Brad has developed and delivered realistic and effective defensive tactics training to major law enforcement agencies and is one of the original members of a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club dedicated to teaching the art to his law enforcement community.
In early 2017, all of this training culminated when Brad was awarded his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Mestre Sylvio Behring. Yves initially began his martial arts journey through as a Judo practitioner, seeing one of his training partners wearing a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu shirt. After watching the likes of Royce Gracie compete in the early Ultimate Fighting Championship days, Yves was convinced he needed to master this particular martial art.
Yves sees himself as a long-term Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructed dedicated to teaching the kid's classes; some of his fondest achievements are meeting great people and keeping in shape through the academy.
Yves strongly believes that training in BJJ is a great confidence booster -
“I think BJJ is the best martial art for women and youth (as it) teaches you to control a much heavier opponent even from your back. That is why both of my girls are training in BJJ”.
Arif got started in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in order to improve his cardio as an additional activity; after his first grappling session however he was immediately hooked. Arif enjoys the challenging aspects of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and approaches the art as a puzzle to be solved both mentally and physically.
Arif is currently studying and working towards his Black Belt. Arif enjoys participating in tournaments at all levels and believes that eating right, proper conditioning and technique are critical elements to success as it pertains to competing.
Arif about joining the academy/getting involved in BJJ and martial arts -
"Give it a try, and don’t be discouraged. Focus on continual improvement rather than leaps and bounds. Jiu jitsu is a way to increase your confidence regardless of what gender you are. When you leave the mats and go into the world you’ll feel like a lion surrounded by sheep."
