Physical fitness and health benefits are the primary reasons why people choose to get involved with sporting activities. Keeping in shape means different things to different people, but there is no denying that being in an optimal physical state has many desirable benefits.
Most sports have some element of physical conditioning which forces the athlete to evolve and improve oneself over time. However, there are few sports with the all-encompassing physical advantages which martial arts can provide to an individual. Martial arts, such as Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing, are practices which use nearly all parts of the body in a way which is quite natural and fluid.
As opposed to sports which promote specific power-lifting exercises to gain muscle mass and bulk, these arts focus on a well rounded approach towards fitness rather than specific impractical workouts. Although those exercises have merit and value in sporting situations, they will not provide the same balanced results that a proper martial arts program will provide. This is what makes the core for martial arts as a complete fitness system; strength, flexibility, endurance, and speed can all be improved through one enjoyable program.
