Choosing an activity for your child? Consider the benefits of Martial Arts

11/22/2017

Sports are an integral part of raising children, however, making a choice and deciding which activity may be the most beneficial, can be difficult. Physical activity allows for a release of energy; sports combined can develop important life skills for the rest of a child's life.  children. Martial arts can be an ideal candidate for the above categories, with extra benefits. If done correctly, training in martial arts will improve many other areas of a child's life; these advantages are often not considered by parents in the short-term.

Discipline & Control

Mamute Martial Arts encourages youth participants to exercise control when practicing and in class. Self-discipline and paying attention to instructors is the only way to improve as a martial artist. Driven and interested students will find drastic improvements in their ability to listen and understand direction; these values can be accelerated by instilling a sense of confidence in students.

Self-Defense and protection from bullying

Teaching your child to defend themselves is not an adequate response to potential bullying. Youth should be aware of how to protect themselves if they feel threatened, but this does not necessarily mean a physical response. In a schooling situation, it is equally important to know what teachers and staff expect of students. Becoming aware is the first step towards the confidence that may be required in order to repel bullies and potentially aggressive situations.

Interpersonal Skills

Becoming part of a team is critical at any martial arts gym or academy. When investing time with fellow classmates by learning together, many other interactions will occur, promoting teamwork and acceptance for others. Not everybody learns at the same pace and martial arts, as with any sport, can create frustrating situations; patience and support are the best ways peers can help each other. Social skills have been shown to improve greatly when working with others to mutually improve.

Physical Improvement

Hand-eye coordination, posture and balance are some of the most significant benefits to be highlighted when it comes to youth getting involved with martial arts. Because martial arts becomes a lifestyle over time rather than an activity, training consistently can become a channel for other healthy living interests including diet, muscular and cardiovascular improvement.

Respect

Positive outlook and attitude will eventually become second-nature at Mamute Martial Arts. As with most academies, respect for professors and other peers is a necessity that creates a healthy atmosphere of efficient learning, rather than becoming distracted or left out. Martial arts are unique from most sports; values such as respect become a lifestyle choice, rather than something which may only occur when your child is at the gym training.

Work Ethic

Martial artists are rarely (if ever) thought of as a 'lazy' or unmotivated sub-group. Working to perfect certain drills or learning an advanced maneuver can take a bit of time, and acts as a measure for overall progression. If your child is interesting in pursuing martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the belt grading system will become a motivator of sorts. Consistently training and working towards your next belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is most certainly one way a child can improve their overall work ethic.
