Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mamute Martial Arts Oshawa
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai have seen a rapid increase of growth and mainstream exposure in the past few years. With more and more tournaments, invitationals and conventions popping up around the globe, this rate of growth will continue. As this popularity continues, new techniques are developed and hidden benefits are revealed.
Both BJJ and Muay Thai are ideal for self-defence situations, although avoiding confrontation is always a mandated priority before using these techniques. BJJ encourages flexibility which allows for a variety of submissions including chokes, holds, and takedowns. On the other hand, Muay Thai will vastly increase cardio abilities and provide a strong center of gravity. Combine both, and you, your significant other, or your child will be on the path to a complete martial artist.
For casual practitioners, or those who are still considering getting involved, the self-defence aspects of these martial arts are the most critical. However, those who continue to train will also see a drastic increase in overall health and body function. Although different levels of ability exist, improved physical and mental health is an attribute every martial artist can share.
The fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai remain the same ; focus, awareness, determination and passion. Contact us today for a free trial at one of our locations.
Mamute Martial Arts Academy is a family-oriented environment and we are proud to have relatives training together. It is not uncommon for our students to bring additional family members in so that they can see the benefits of our martial arts programs.
On the subject of family, our academy has a wide range of ages with high levels of success. We believe that hard work and focus can dispel stereotypes and traditional opinions. In a way, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is based around dispelling common notions. For example, with BJJ training smaller individuals can routinely defend themselves against physically larger threats, if needed.
One recent example was a father and son who both just received their Blue Belts through our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program. Our academy takes belt grading seriously, and we do not hand these out lightly. This is a great example of how martial arts training can bring out the best in family members as both were able to achieve the same results.
All belt promotions take a long time, and the requirements vary between students, performance and time spent training. A blue belt has a broad general knowledge of the positions used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and can begin working on more advanced positions. Competition, increased awareness of submission technique and understanding the value of BJJ are all integral to receiving your blue belt. For more information on belts and grading, please contact us.
Age and relative performance is a connection we as a society like to frequently make. However, keeping active is not restricted to any age group and we believe that all age groups can achieve success in our programs. In the photos above, a 62 year old man who clearly embraces our philosophy of ignoring stereotypes had achieved his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after countless hours on the mat. Striving for personal success and achievement are core values which are embraced here at Mamute Martial Arts Academy.
